FAQ's

Our full list of Frequently Asked Questions is below. If you still have a question please feel free to give us a call or drop us a mail!

  • We recommend you avoid sun-tanning, spray-tanning, tanning injections and sunbed for 4 to 6 weeks before your treatment. Ideally, we recommend using SPF 50 to prep your skin for 2 to 4 weeks before your treatment, especially if you are naturally darker skinned.
  • Avoid any other type of procedure for 3-4 weeks on the same area which you intend to have treated with Plasma Pen, such as laser therapy, or chemical peels. This may prevent your treatment being performed by your clinician at the time you want it.
  • Discontinue any use of topical Retin-A products a minimum of 10 days prior to treatment, and Retinol products a minimum of 3 days prior to treatment.
  • Remove contact lenses and any eyelash extensions prior to treatment.• We frequently will pre-treat some treatment sites, such as the upper lip and crows feet region with Botox to minimize muscle activity post Plasma Pen. This is done at least seven days prior to treatment for an improved long-term result.

The Fibroblast Plasma Pen treatment will produce side-effects after the procedure. This is common and normal. Side effects expected is redness, swelling, and slight pain, this generally subsides after a day or two.

  • Eye Treatment Area
  • Day of treatment: Some swelling. Feels hot like a sunburn. This feeling can last for up to 3 hours+
  • Day 1 (Next day post-treatment): Lots of swelling (the most swelling), especially in the morning
  • Day 2: Swelling
  • Day 3: Itchy sensation and tightness. Swelling decreases. Dots dry and may start to fall off

Swelling

You will notice most of the swelling on the first morning after treatment, particularly around the eyes. Swelling usually lasts two to three days. To minimise swelling do the following:

  • Follow Lymphatic Drainage Protocols
  • Sleep elevated the first night. Use as many pillows as you can tolerate
  • Avoid salt and alcohol
  • Body dry brushing
  • Jade rolling

Heat/Sunburn/Stinging

Feeling hot like a sunburn stinging sensation is normal immediately after the treatment and for the rest of that night.

Itchiness

You will start to feel itchy from the 3rd day. Do not pick at the dots. The itchiness sensation means that the dots are starting to heal and are getting ready to dry and fall off.

Dry skin

Your skin may feel dry, peel or flake. You may notice a “sandpaper” texture a few days after treatment. This is the treated tissue working its way out of your body as new fresh skin is regenerated.

Redness

Most redness resolves during the first week after treatment, but a rosy “glow” can remain for several weeks. After the carbon crusts (dots) have fallen off, 5 to 7 days after the treatment, that’s when you can apply your normal coverage of makeup.

Bronzing, Crusting and Small Dark Dots

The Fibroblast Plasma Pen treatment causes destruction to microscopic cylinders of skin which then exfoliates during the healing process. The treatment can make the skin look bronzed, or small areas appear crusted (do not try to scratch them off). Scratching off any carbon deposits (dots) may result in infection, scarring and hypo-pigmentation of the skin that may not be able to be reversed. Please refrain from scratching any areas that are healing.

Raw Skin

If you develop areas of raw skin post treatment, keep them moist with the provided ointment and our Fibroblast Aftercare. You do not need to apply band-aids, but keep the areas moist and do not pick at them. They will heal very rapidly on their own and without problems.

Weeping

Initially, after treatment and for a day or so afterward, there may be occasional weeping (yellow pus). This is simply plasma and is a natural healing response. This simply flakes off after a few days but in some cases can take over 1 week.

For 1 week After Treatment

  • Wash the area gently with warm water, carefully pat dry. Apply a small pea size of Aftercare cream 2 x per day
  • No Makeup
  • No Swimming
  • Do not use Actives or Anti Ageing Creams (Retinols, Tretonin, Retin A)
  • No Sauna
  • No exposing the area to sunlight

For 2 weeks After Treatment

  • Moisturise the area 2 x per day, using products that are hydrating and repairing eg La Roche Porsay Cicaplast Baume. Ingredients such at Hyaluronic Acid and Centella help heal the skin as well as hydrating it.
  • Gentle cleansing
  • Do not use AHA’s Glycolics or Retinols
  • Do not use Exfoliating Products

At all time during the course of Treatment (1 week on)

  • Sun exposure should be avoided, if not, wear 50+ Sunscreen
  • Moisturise the area 2 x per day, using products that are hydrating and repairing eg La Roche Porsay Cicaplast Baume. Ingredients such at Hyaluronic Acid help heal the skin as well as hydrating it. You want to ensure that the skin is prevented from drying out and peeling.
  • No Sun beds or Sun baking

Skin Care Products

All of your skin care products should be non-irritating and non-clogging for the first week or so after the treatment. For best results, we advise to use products that contain healing and hydrating ingredients such as Hyaluronic Acid and Centella.

Sunscreen

You should first apply sunscreen 20 minutes before going outside, and again, immediately before. After that, reapply your sunscreen every 2 hours. If direct sun exposure is necessary, wear a hat and clothing that covers the treated area. Use this regimen during the healing period and always.

Moisturiser

Remember that peeling and/or flaking is normal during the healing process. Therefore, the product should be non-irritating and non-clogging, or else you could develop breakouts. During the healing period your normal moisturiser may be too occlusive, so please consider using our aftercare products. Reapply whenever your skin feels dry.

Scrubs, Toners, Glycolic Acid, and Retin A

Your skin will be sensitive for the first week or so after treatment, so do not use products that will cause irritation during this time. Do not use abrasive scrubs, toners, or products that contain glycolyic acids or Retin A. Read the product labels.

Resume your normal skin care regimen when your skin has fully healed.

Cosmetic Treatments

Do not do any cosmetic treatments on the treated area of the following until the skin is healed at 6 weeks.

  • Skin Needling
  • Hair Removal laser
  • Carbon Peel laser
  • PRP
  • Botox/Fillers
  • BB Glow
  • Active Peels (AHA, Enzyme, etc)

Semi Permanent eyebrows involve depositing an industry regulated pigment into the dermal layer of the skin with the use of a needle, giving the illusion of real hairs.

Permanent cosmetic makeup is cosmetic tattooing. The specialised techniques used for permanent cosmetics are often referred to as “Embroidery”, “Micropigmentation”, “Micropigment implantation” or “Dermagraphics”.

The cosmetic implantation technique deposits coloured pigment into the upper layer of your skin using manual or machine method.

Anybody and everybody! Semi Permanent eyebrows are great for those who may suffer from skin sensitivities from traditional make up/eyebrow tints. Or just simply anybody that wants to “wake up to make up” and have a natural enhancement to their eyebrow appearance. The results of Semi Permanent eyebrows build the clients confidence, proving to be a luxurious treat to an almost maintenance free, natural look. Some medical/skin conditions and medication are not suitable for Semi Permanent eyebrows. If you have any doubts it is always best to seek a doctor’s attention and ask the technician prior to booking an appointment.

Many important steps are followed when a procedure is done correctly and normally that would take 2 hours. We will include a consultation and a review of the person’s medical history. Time is then used for determining the best design, colour selection, numbing, the actual procedure, photos, after care instructions and answering all questions. Follow up visits usually require less time.

The results are considered permanent because the implanted colour cannot be washed off. However, the colour should be considered “Semi Permanent” because some fading will occur over time. Colour retention is affected by different factors including the shade of the original colour, the person’s age and metabolism, skin type and condition, exposure to UV radiation (sun, tanning booths), smoking, certain drugs and medications and skin peeling treatments such as RetinA or microdermabrasion. In general, the colour lasts from 1 to 3 years and can be enhanced and refreshed by a maintenance visit when needed.

Consultation is normally undertaken on the day of the treatment. However there is no charge for your initial consultation. This is a great way to put you at ease. I will discuss in depth shape, style and the colour that can be achieved. I will often draw on a guideline to what can be achieved to give you a better idea of the possible transformation.

A great number of clients do not take any time off, go straight into work the next day and no one notices. Generally the colour is much darker during its first week of healing. However, you can lose 20-30% of the colour.

Sometimes, a second appointment is required after the initial treatment, which is often referred to as a ‘top up’ treatment. This appointment allows any adjustments to be made to the eyebrows. However, this is not always required and is totally dependent on the client’s skin and aftercare of the initial treatment.
